Theater: Puppetry!
with Elise Voigt
Grades 1–8 | Puppetry
Dates: Nov 5 – Dec 17
Pick-up: at Brightfield between 4:20pm and 4:30pm
Join Elise Voigt for an inspiring 6-week puppetry theater unit. With experience in theater education, improvisation, ensemble-based performance and theater degrees from Sarah Lawrence College in New York and the British American Drama Academy in London, Elise brings a playful, collaborative spirit to every session. Throughout the unit, students will explore the magical world of puppetry, working with a variety of puppets (some brought in, some handcrafted by the students themselves) as they learn to bring characters to life through voice, movement and storytelling. Together, the group will also design and build a simple set, transforming their space into a world of their own creation.
Puppetry offers a unique entry point into theater, especially for students who might feel shy about performing. With a puppet in hand, performers can step into bold characters and vivid stories while maintaining the comfort of performing at one degree of removal (what theater folks might call “indirect embodiment”) This gives students the freedom to let their imaginations run wild. The unit will culminate in a holiday performance on December 17th, where students’ characters will come to life!
