A School Community

Our Board of Trustees is, and will continue to be, local to Maine. They are committed to fostering a school community that is truly a community. One where teachers, students, and families can come together regularly in celebration of the Bright Future we are building together.

Cyrus Ahalt – Chair

Cyrus is co-founder and co-director of a nationally recognized non-profit focused on criminal justice reform. He lives in Bath with his wife, Kate. Their kids Gus and Lucy will be in Brightfieldʼs 3rd and 1st grades. As a family, they can be found most weekends at Reid State Park, Hidden Valley Nature Center, or somewhere in between.

Becki Dikitanan – Vice Chair

Becki is a principal designer and procurement specialist in her family’s design, supply, and build business. She resides on Westport Island with her husband and two youngest children, while her two older children live nearby with their own young families. Becki is passionate about helping children in need, particularly those facing neglect and abuse. She values family, children, and community, dedicating her free time to her family and encouraging them to serve their community.

Kat Sanders – Secretary

Kat moved to Maine in 2022 to get back to a community focused lifestyle immersed in nature, creativity, and wild spaces. Born in the UK, she worked for 12+ years in nature conservation, ecology, and environmental education at home and overseas. She is an enthusiastic (but not always successful) home flower farmer, seamstress and wild swimmer and hopes to soon add skiing to the list.

Maria Vettese

Maria, an artist and small business owner, is the daughter of a lifelong educator mother and librarian father. She was raised to discern and appreciate the importance of the natural world, the arts, a strong community, and a good bowl of pasta. Together with her partner, artist Christopher David Ryan, she tries her best to understand and inspire her two young children. She has lived in Maine for nearly 20 years.
