Cost: $22/day

We’re thrilled to introduce this hands-on outdoor education program led by John LaMarca, a Registered Maine Guide, experienced outdoorsman, and writer for The Maine Sportsman. Students will develop practical wilderness skills, confidence, teamwork, and leadership while learning directly from an expert in the field. Each week brings a new challenge, from shelter building and fire making to wildlife tracking, map and compass navigation, axemanship, wilderness first aid, and plant and animal identification. We’re kicking things off with a shelter building challenge week one that will emphasize team building, problem solving and collaboration! These skills will help students become more capable, resourceful, and prepared for Brightfield’s increasingly independent outdoor adventures and expeditions. These outdoor leadership skills can also lay the groundwork for later training and certification for a Maine Trip Leader permit, if your child is interested in pursuing that path.

John LaMarca is a Registered Maine Guide, Director of Engineering in the Outdoor Industry, and Director of the youth outdoor nonprofit, “Moose Maine Kids” and writer for “The Maine Sportsman.” John has dedicated his life’s work to nature and the wildlife it holds. He loves giving back to his community by leading youth programs focused on hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, and building confidence and excitement in the great outdoors of Maine.

NOTE: This program is dependent on registration. If your child loves being outdoors, enjoys a challenge, would benefit from team-building, confidence-building and/or is curious to learn the skills needed to navigate and thrive in the backcountry, we encourage you to sign up early!
