Brightfield Service Projects Up for Auction!
Snapshot of Learning at Brightfield: Setting a Welcome Back Table with Kindergarten and 7/8 Buddies

Yesterday, our 7/8 cohort returned from a 3 day sea kayaking expedition. They had navigated, paddled, planned, and cooked their way through camping on multiple MITA islands. Our Kindergarten class, who are learning life skills and kindness through community, used this moment to bring their learning to life - they set up a table for a shared victory lunch.

Our youngest cohort used early math skills to bake them a dessert, set the table, and place water glasses. Our oldest cohort joined them gratefully, sharing stories of seals, sleeping in tents, and ocean bonfires. Cheers to learning together, finding genuine moments of connection on an otherwise normal Thursday afternoon lunch.
Check out our October newsletter (link in bio) featuring the beginnings of the 7th and 8th grades' journey into capstone projects!
This fall, Brightfield expanded to add our first kindergarten class! Their fall theme study - Life Skills and Locals - is focused on understanding who makes up our community, our place in community, and the skills we can develop to be a part it! Over the last three weeks, our kindergarteners have done a book study of Chris Van Dusen’s work and designed their own cars, homes, and schools; visited the local library; and are preparing for trips to the local police and fire stations.

We still have kindergarten openings for this school year! Reach out through our website if you think low-tech, nature- and place-based kindergarten is the right fit for your child!
Come visit Brightfield at the @bath.book.bash! We have lots of fun give aways and will be hosting Book Bingo at 1:00pm! See you there!
Our Friday afternoon ended with every student outside of the classroom! Today, we learned in the kitchen, in our new outdoor classrooms, at Oak Grove Cemetery, and at sites around Merrymeeting Bay.

Reach out if you want to visit and explore learning at Brightfield for your child. We have limited spots open for fall enrollment, including kindergarten!
What an incredible first week! From settling into new routines and meeting new friends to singing together at our first community meeting outside, it was wonderful to be back!
Ready for the first day of school! Thanks to our staff and volunteers for preparing our new classrooms & outdoor spaces. We can't wait for students to join us next week to begin exploring our community, local businesses, salt marshes & Merrymeeting Bay!
Learning comes to life at Brightfield School for Place-Based Education!

Thank you to all of our amazing community partners and guest teachers who made these experiences possible this year. Featured here are the Bath Wastewater Treatment Facility and Toad&Co!
What is learning like in kindergarten and in our 1st/2nd-grade class at Brightfield? Listen to our 1st- and 2nd-graders' poem from our end-of-year celebration to find out!

We are still accepting applications for limited spots in kindergarten and 2nd-grade for next school year!
School's out! We celebrated our last week in style with hikes, bikes, and plenty of silliness. Happy summer!!!
We can't believe it's our last week of school! Brightfield students have already been thinking ahead to what next year will hold, and recently spent time in next year's cohorts creating art that reflects their hopes and dreams for next year.

There are still a handful of spots available for next year in Kindergarten, grade 2, and grades 5-8! Reach out if you're also excited about opportunities for place-based learning next year!
